We Bring the Supply House to Your Driveway.

If you are calling a plumber every six months to clear backups, or if your home smells like sewage when it rains, a “repair” is no longer enough. You likely have a systemic failure—whether it’s rotting Cast Iron under your slab or a yard line crushed by tree roots.

At Blackmon Plumbing, we specialize in Whole-Home Sewer Replacement. We don’t just patch the symptom; we remove the dying infrastructure and install a brand-new, code-compliant PVC system.

Because we dispatch Mobile Warehouses equipped with heavy-duty excavation tools and bedding materials, we manage the entire project—from permitting to backfill—without the delays of smaller contractors.

What We Carry on the Truck for Sewer Replacement

A full sewer replacement is a major construction project. It requires more than just a wrench. Our fleet arrives ready for heavy lifting.

  • Excavation & Shoring Gear: We bring the tools to safely access lines buried 3 to 10 feet deep, including OSHA-compliant shoring boards to protect our crew.
  • Bedding Materials (Sand/Gravel): A new pipe is only as good as the ground it sits on. We carry proper bedding to ensure your new line has perfect slope and won’t sag (belly) later.
  • Schedule 40 PVC (ASTM D1785) & Dual Cleanouts: We install heavy-duty, commercial-grade PVC that meets strictly defined ASTM D1785 standards for pressure and durability. Roots cannot penetrate these fused joints. We also install “Two-Way Cleanouts” at the house, giving you easy access for future maintenance.
  • Transition Couplings: We stock the specific shielded adapters needed to connect your new system to the City Main or septic inlet.

How We Replace a Sewer Line Correctly

Replacing a sewer line is an art. If the “slope” (angle) is off by even a fraction of an inch, waste will stall and clog. We hold Master Plumber License MPL-38162, and we get the math right.

The #1 Reason for Replacement: Cast Iron Failure

If your Houston home was built before 1980, you likely have Cast Iron drains. These pipes have a lifespan of about 40–50 years. We are now past that deadline.

  • Channel Rot: Sewer gas (Hydrogen Sulfide) eats away the bottom of the pipe. The pipe may look fine from the top, but the bottom is jagged or missing, causing paper to catch and pile up.
  • Scale Buildup: The inside of the pipe rusts and swells, shrinking the diameter from 4 inches to 2 inches.

The Solution: No amount of “cleaning” can fix rot. The only solution is replacing the iron with smooth PVC.

The ROI of Replacement: Pipe Lifespan Comparison

Why upgrade to PVC? Because it is the only material designed to outlast the mortgage on your home.

Pipe Material

  • Cast Iron (Pre-1980 Homes)
  • Orangeburg / Clay
  • Schedule 40 PVC (Blackmon Install)

Typical Lifespan

  • 40–50 Years
  • 30–40 Years
  • 100+ Years

The Failure Mode

  • Ruts, channels, and “bottom rot” from sewer gas.
  • Crushed by roots or collapsed from moisture.
  • Impervious to roots, rot, and corrosion.

Common Questions About Sewer Repair

Q: How long does a full yard line replacement take?

A: Typically 1–2 days. We aim to have your water back on the same evening.

Q: Will you ruin my landscaping?

A: We treat your yard with respect. We lay down plywood to protect grass from heavy equipment and hand-dig around sensitive flower beds.

Q: Why install Dual Cleanouts?

A: Code requires them, but they also save you money later. They allow a snake to go both ways (toward the street and toward the house) without removing a toilet.

Why We Don't "Line" Old Pipes

Competitors may try to sell you a “Pipe Liner” (a resin sock inserted into the old pipe). We refuse to do this.

  • Diameter Loss: Lining an old cast iron pipe reduces its flow capacity even further.
  • The “Belly” Remains: If your old pipe has a dip (belly), the liner will just copy that dip. It fixes the leak but not the flow.
  • Longevity: In Houston’s shifting soil, liners often delaminate or crack. A new PVC pipe, properly bedded, is a permanent structural upgrade.
